February 20, 2013

From our CEO
Mary Barneby
National Girl Scout Cookie Day was held on February 8 (also the date of our historic blizzard!) and it was a great success. Many people were reading about our Cookie Program and the Five Skills it teaches girls: goal setting, money management, people skills, business ethics, and decision making. For those of you eagerly waiting, cookies will arrive in Connecticut on March 2. We’ll be delivering over 2 million boxes to our girls, that will then be delivered to you!

Booth sales will start that same day. Be sure and visit girlscoutcookies.org and download the Official Girl Scout Cookie Finder app to get up-to-date information on where to find cookies in the state. You can still donate cookies to our Cookies for Heroes program. Please consider doing so, as these cookies truly make our service women and men around the world smile!

On Wednesday, February 27, Girl Scouts of Connecticut will be hosting Girl Scout Day at the Capitol. This day allows Girl Scouts to discuss and advocate for key issues impacting girls statewide with their local legislators. On this day, we will also acknowledge that Girl Scouting works for many girls, instilling in them leadership skills and engaging them in their communities. Everyone is invited to attend and hear from the girls themselves on how Girl Scouting is preparing them for their future! You can read more about the day’s lineup of activities here.

I’m pleased to announce that Lieutenant Governor Nancy Wyman will continue her role as Leader for our Honorary Troop at the Capitol. This is a group of bi-partisan policymakers who are committed to advancing important issues for girls, including healthy living, internet safety, cyberbullying, and STEM opportunities.

After breezing through most of winter with little to no snow, Mother Nature surprised us with a historic blizzard, leaving many with up to 3 feet of snow! I want to extend my thanks to all volunteers, members, and staff, for your efforts to keep Girl Scouting moving through the storm. My best to you and your families as we all continue to dig out from under the snow.

Yours in Girl Scouting,
Mary Barneby
